2011 Member-Guest Format Survey

We are considering several different formats for the 2011 Member-Guest Tournament. It is our intent to increase participation by making this change. Below are the formats being considered and an explanation of each format. Please make your preferred selection at the bottom of this page.

2-Person Scramble

This is our current format. Players play a 2-person scramble both days of the event. Flights are made following the first round. No handicaps are used.

Quota System

Each player will have a point quota based on their handicap, points are earned based on your score on individual holes, birdie=5 points, par=2 points, bogey=1 point, etc. Teams will be preflighted based on the team handicap. Following Round One of the tournament quotas will be adjusted by 50% based on the results of the first round. Flight winners will be determined by who exceeds their quota by the most points. The overall champion will be the team that exceeds their quota by the most points regardless of flight. Example: the two teams with the highest overall points are Team A who is in Championship Flight and finishes the tournament at +8 (eight points over their quota), Team B who is in the Fourth Flight finishes the tournament at +10 (ten points over their quota), Team B would be the Member Guest Champions. Using this format all players, members and their guests would be required to have a current USGA handicap.

9 Hole Match Play

Each team will play five 9 hole matches in a round robin format against the other teams in their flight. Flights will be determined based on the total team handicap. Flight winners will be determined by the best record in the flight. In the case of a tie there will be several tie breaker rules set in place before the tournament begins. The overall champion will be determined by a shootout (with handicaps) between all of the flight winners. Using this format all players, members and their guests would be required to have a current USGA handicap. This format would also prevent us from having a calcutta following the first round of play.
